From the five paintings in UK public collections (see ArtUK.org), it is clear that the urban landscape was Chamberlain's focus. Likely painted at his Chelsea studio, this has all the energy and looseness of being painted en plein air in the streets of London. The few figures that populate his city's pavements are generally sombre and solitary though in this, there is a feeling of energy and activity, with the blurred foreground figure launching himself towards a football.
