Stephen Palmer 'In the Field'

In November, we held our first solo exhibition of the paintings of Stephen Palmer, which explored his experiences of working in and from the landscape.

In the forty paintings on display, Palmer's strong relationship with the rural landscapes of both England and France was clear. His distinctive and increasingly loose paintings are the product of concentrated studies and time spent drawing in the fields. Palmer paints in broad, flat brushstrokes to describe the planes of his environment, combining this with the description of finer details to create a layering in his painting. His great understanding of colour lifts the works from simple representations to the truly enchanting.

Our exhibtion was featured in Country Life magazine, November 25th, 2015, where one of Stephen's paintings was illustrated.
