'Ways of Seeing' online course with Adam Rattray

We are delighted that Adam Rattray, head of History of Art at Winchester College, will be running his highly popular 'Ways of Seeing' courses. The online course takes you through the introductory skills taught at A-level and University focussing on how painters paint; how sculptors sculpt; and how architects build.

Using a range of examples, and artists from Matisse to Michelangelo, Adam will introduce you to techniques such as single-point perspective and the Impressionists use of impasto; to bronze casting and marble carving; and how Le Corbusier created a modern style of architecture in the 20th century.

The four-week course is run on Zoom. It is as interactive as you would like it to be and Adam asks questions throughout, which you are encouraged to answer, but only if you wish.

The course borrows from the 'Ways of Seeing' course taught to generations of A-level students.  No prior knowledge is necessary and the material is not difficult, but engages students of every level and ability.

Course dates are:

June, Wednesdays at 8pm - 10th June; 17th June, 24th June; 1st July 2020 (Now fully booked)

July, Thursdays at 7pm - 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th July 2020

The cost for the four sessions is £50 and numbers are limited to 12 places. It would also make a great gift for a family member or friend.

We very much hope you will join us, pencil in one hand, glass of wine in the other
