Sophie Ryder British, b. 1963

Biography

Sophie Ryder was born in London in 1963. She studied at Kingston Polytechnic from 1980-81 and then at the Royal Academy Schools, London, from 1981-1984. She has been sculpting works from wire and bronze for over twenty years, many of which are designed for an outdoor setting and are monumental in size. After she married, Sophie and her husband started their own foundry next to her studio, to enable her to supervise the progression of her work at every stage. Ryder is also a skilled draughtswoman, and is also known to work in two dimensions and with pastels and charcoals. Her work has been exhibited internationally since 2000, having been displayed publically in the UK, Canada, United States, Eire, Belgium and the Netherlands.
