Leslie McKinley Howell b. 1945

Based in East Sussex, Leslie has moved through a multitude of creative industries before he came to the world of ceramics. After completing his degree in textile design in 1968, Leslie worked as a freelance designer in London before moving to New York. A time in fashion illustration grew into illustration and design for a collection of industries, before moving back to London and running an international design studio producing textiles for fashion and furnishings.

In 2010, Leslie moved his energies to working in clay, beginning to turn a long-time passion into a more focused output. His study of ceramic design at this time allowed for the clear and vivid communication of textures which are found in his current work. He is most enjoying the complex processes involved in the creation of dramatic effects in ceramic production, as well as bringing his education on the Bauhaus and abstract expressionism to a fresh medium.
