Derek Wilkinson 1929-2001

Derek Wilkinson was born in Halifax in 1929. He attended Blackpool School of Art, 1946-50, then Regional College of Art in Manchester, from 1951-3 he did National Service then worked with Metal Box Company for five years.

Derek then began in 1958 to work in department of art and design at Stockport College, latterly he became senior lecturer in charge of foundation studies until 1989. Derek was a member of MAFA, also taking part in group shows at RA, RBA, Middlesbrough Drawing Biennale and Laing Exhibition. Had a series of solo exhibitions in London, Manchester, Preston, Stockport, Derby, Carlisle, Kendal and Blackpool. Examples of his work can be found in public galleries in Oldham, Salford, Sheffield, Stockport & Walker Art Gallery.
