'Chiswick has by now become so much a part of my life that I can conceive of living nowhere else. And yet it is such a varied scene that I am never tired of looking at it. Besides the river traffic, tugs, barges, sailing dinghies, skiffs, and eights, there are the ever-changing skies and the ever-changing states of the tide. It reminds me at times of a Venetian fete' (Julian Trevelyan, 'Indigo Days', Macgibbon and Kee, London, 1957)
