This painting suggest the movement of the sea below the cliffs at Handfast Point. Handfast Point is in Purbeck, Dorset and has the famous Old Harry Rocks. These are chalk stacks left behind as the cliffs erode. The sea water is in constant motion, swirling around below the cliffs creating whirlpools, the turbulent water churns and moves around the base of the cliffs, often causing waves to crash against the rocks and spray upward which can erode the cliffs over time, carving out caves and sea stacks. The chalk washes into the sea making it turn a milky blue. The stacks have names; Old Harry, Old Harry's Wife, No Mans Land, Turf Rick Rock (also known as the Haystack) and The Pinnacle
