In 1961, Vaughan visited Greece, travelling to the Cyclades and the Peloponnese. The trip had a profound impact on his work, inspiring several paintings and marking a notable shift in his artistic style. The vivid blue and open colours of the Aegean sea had a distinct effect on his palette, and he began to loosen his technique and further explore abstraction.
