The title recalls a painting by the Pre-Raphaelite artist, William Holman Hunt, which hangs in St Paul's Cathedral. These screenprints relate directly to a group of large oil paintings that Robyn Denny exhibited at his retrospective exhibition in the Tate Gallery in 1973, in which interlocking, coloured forms float against a large expanse of monochrome pigment, implying a 'step' into an imagined space.
