Jonathan Christie b. 1969

Jonathan Christie is a painter whose work is inspired by everyday objects, as well as the architecture, landscapes, and memories of the places he visits, most notably Cornwall and Italy.

Using watercolour, gesso, graphite and sgraffito on board, his paintings move through a process of constant change and development, where the physical surface and personal aspects of the work evolve, shift, overlap and overlay. This process of applying and removing ideas and paint, creates a subtle history that implies more than just a single, specific point in time. In this way, his paintings emerge with traces of their genesis still apparent at completion.

Jonathan grew up in South-West London before completing his BA at Maidstone College of Art. He lives in East Sussex and has exhibited his artworks throughout Great Britain.
