Biography
Christopher Riisager is a painter, printmaker and sculptor. Born in Oxford in 1961, he studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, London, graduating in 1984. Notable teachers include Adrian Ryan, Joan Key and Leonard McComb.
Since 1987 Riisager has lived and worked in the landscapes that he knows and loves in Wiltshire and Dorset.
Painting mainly landscape in oils, his work shows the influence of the tonal studies of 19th century; the French classicism of Corot, and the English stylishness of William Nicholson.
Inspired by specific places, or natural effects, he uses simple elements and refined colour harmonies to produce paintings with a beauty that is intentionally plain and enduring.
