Biography

Martin Yeoman was born in 1953, and studied with Peter Greenham at the Royal Academy Schools, London, from 1975 to 1979. He was awarded scholarships that allowed him to further study in Spain. After returning to England, he was commissioned by the National Trust and most notably by the Royal Family. Among his subjects to date are Her Majesty The Queen's grandchildren, for the 40th anniversary of her reign, Sir Alan Hodgkin OM, Sir Brinsley Ford and the former Bishop of Birmingham Hugh Montefiori. He has accompanied the King on official overseas tours to teach the former Prince of Wales to paint. The first was a tour of the Gulf States in 1986 and Yeoman went on to join the Prince on tours to Hong Kong, India and Nepal. Awarded the Ondaatje Prize for portraiture in 2002, he now teaches at the Royal Drawing School and is a member of the New English Art Club. Collections of Yeoman's work are now held by The British Museum, The National Trust, The National Portrait Gallery, the Diocese of Birmingham, Grimsby School of Art, the late Queen, HM The King and HRH the Princess Royal.
